Japan: military helicopter rescued

On the ground black box and wreckage of the Black Hawk that sank last month

Most of the wreckage, including the Flight Data Recorder of a Japanese Army helicopter (GSDF, Ground Self-Defense Force) was recovered yesterday from the seabed in southern Okinawa prefecture. The Sikorsky UH-60JA Black Hawk military aircraft that disappeared from radar on April 6 was then identified the following day. There were 10 servicemen on board, all of whom died, but only six bodies were recovered.

The local media reported it, citing government sources. A company specializing in recovery and salvage operations has made it possible to bring a large part of the wreckage back to land, which was found at a depth of 106 meters below the surface of the sea, near the island of Miyakojima, in Okinawa prefecture. The helicopter was in fact directed to the Miyakojima island airport, but crashed about 18 km to the northwest.
