Germany thinks about H-145M helicopters

Decommissioned old Tigers by 2038

Germany's Defense Ministry has announced in recent days that it will begin the gradual decommissioning of the old Tiger combat helicopters. By 2038 they will be replaced by H-145M multi-role light aircraft, also manufactured by Airbus Helicopters. A move that falls within the framework of initiatives aimed at increasing spending in the defense sector, as requested by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato).

Germany had withdrawn, due to costs and times deemed excessive, from the international program for the modernization of the Mk-III military helicopter fleet. Then recently the government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in the face of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, had presented and had approved a historic long-term investment of 100 billion euros for the enhancement of the country's defense capabilities.

With this money, Berlin opted for the purchase of H-145M multi-purpose light helicopters, again produced by the same industry. They did not disclose specific details from the German Defense Ministry regarding the number of aircraft that will be purchased or the costs involved. On the sale, the opinion of the budget commission of the Parliament is expected by the end of 2023.
