Heathrow Airport: British planes in tilt

Delays at the weekend due to a technical problem with the company's technological systems

It's chaos at London-Heathrow airport with flight connections delayed and cancelled due to a "technical problem" in the computer systems of the national carrier British Airways. The inconvenience began yesterday afternoon, Thursday 25 May, will continue today and will last throughout the week-end. Thousands of passengers were grounded.

A tweet from British Airways at 11:27pm last night said that the systems have been restored and are currently functional, but problems could still be experienced intermittently: "Affected customers have been contacted and we have offered them various options, including a refund or a rebooking on an alternative flight with us or another carrier".

At least 50 British Airways connections were canceled yesterday, while a large number of inbound flights were delayed by over an hour. The company has warned passengers departing today, Friday 26 May, that their flights scheduled until the evening will be delayed, advising in any case to check the status of their flight before going to the airport.
