Cassini mission ended after 20 years: meteor in the sky of Saturn

Rome, Italy - One of the most important of the space history

Very close orbits have brought the Cassini probe to crash today in the Saturn atmosphere. Behind it a long bright wake similar to a falling star. This is the end of a long adventure, lasted 20 years, of one of the most important missions of the history of the space conquest in which Italy, through ASI (Italian Space Agency) has jointly participated with NASA and ESA (American and European space agencies, respectively). After seven years of travel and 13 ones of activity the probe has sent to the Earth through an its long antenna (4m of diameter) designed and built in Italy by Thales Alenia Space, a huge quantity of information that will occupy the scientists for the next years, to discover missing data on the Saturn formation and on its rings.
