Alitalia, "Be serious if you can"
Air France will not enter into the capital
Air France, through the declarations by its Chief Financial Officer, Frédéric Gagey, once again confirms that it has no intention of entering into the Alitalia's capital. The meeting between the French carrier and Alitalia were only of a technical nature, considering that Alitalia is part of the transatlantic joint-venture with Air France and Delta, and if it should leave this jv before 2022 it would have to pay a penalty of around EUR 250 million. The lack of interest by Air France to enter into Alitalia's capital, formalized once again, discourages the numerous journalistic speculations of these days. At this point Lufthansa is still the only possible buyer.
"We have had some discussions with Alitalia in the last month, but for our transatlantic joint-venture we are obliged to hold these talks on a regular basis", CFO explained it. "You don't always believe what the newspapers report, there is no offer for Alitalia", Gagey specified it to "Bloomberg".
