Aircraft and terrorism: China starts research laboratory
Towards new solutions for Chinese civil aviation
Besides technology of the face recognition already installed in 61 airports
An anti-terrorism research laboratory for the Chinese civil aviation sector was recently opened in southwest China, in the Chongqing municipality. This is announced in the past few days by the authorities of a joint project of the Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology -operating under the control of the Chinese Academy of Sciences- and the Civil Aviation Management Institute of China.
The laboratory scientists will explore the counter-terrorism technology, in particular solutions aimed at perfecting the facial recognition technology for security controls already developed by the institute, and installed in 61 airports across the country.
China Southern Airlines last June 27 was the first Chinese carrier to use the face recognition into operation the day before at the "Jiangying Airport" in the city of Nanyang, Henan Province, bypassing the boarding pass at the time of check-in, because the cameras had already compared the faces of its passengers with photos of their passport.
