Bulgaria, military helicopter crashes

Two of the three occupants died

A Mil Mi-17 military helicopter operated by the Bulgarian Air Force crashed yesterday at 8:30 pm (local time) at the Krumovo Air Base near Plovdiv in Southern Bulgaria during a training flight. The incident, which occurred when the aircraft was about 50 meters high on the military base, gave rise to a fire. The two pilots died and a crew member got wounded. 

The Mi-17 is a heavy transport aircraft of Soviet first and then Russian construction and it is currently in production. It is designed on the base of the Mi-8, the Russian army aircraft known as Mi-8MT, while under the NATO code the aircraft is known as "Hip". The numbering "17" is designed for exports, and the variant is adopted by over 20 countries worldwide.
