Aircraft. Kenya orders C-27J and AW-139

A commission for around 250 million of Euro

The government of Kenya has ordered a C-27J Spartan transport aircraft and an undisclosed number of AW-139 helicopters from Leonardo, to improve the operational capabilities of the Kenyan Air Force and the Police force. The acquisitions were revealed in a report submitted last week to the parliamentary public accounts committee by Henry Rotich, Kenyan Tresaury Secretary.

The deal was closed between November 2017 and February 2018 thanks to an agrement from Treasury and private banks. The cost of the C-27J Spartan is about 171 million of Euro, and other 52 million of Euro is for the purchase of the AW-139 both from Leonardo. Rotich said that the aircrraft loans will only be repaid starting on 11 June 2019.

On this report it's possibile to read that four AW-139 helicopters were delivered to the Kenyan National Police Service Air Wing, and they will be used in public order policing, security and surveillance and VIP transport operations. An operation that cost in total around 34 million of Euro.
