China: joint exercise on an area large as Taiwan
The activities of the Chinese armed forces will start today and end next Monday
The Chinese armed forces will conduct from today until next Monday -according to the "Global Times"- an interforce training in the East China Sea, in an area almost identical to the size of the island of Taiwan. The exercise will primarily serve to demonstrate the skills and speed of reaction of the three Chinese armed forces, but also their ability to work in a changing, mutually and collaborative context.
Secondly -but perhaps it's the most important aspect- it'll be an activity with strong political implications because it will be a clear message to send to Taipei. In addition to this the maneuver will also serve to show the world the Chinese capabilities of projection on the sea both in offensive and in the defensive.
The naval structures will also include aircraft carriers with the respective flight groups, while the Chinese Air Force will be fully equipped for cover operations and air support to ground troops, as well as for reconnaissance, surveillance and anti-submarine and anti-ship tasks.
