Russia: soon sale of a drone in the Middle East
The Orion-E will be exported both in the ISR and in the attack versions
A UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) produced entirely in Russia very similar to the US Predator MQ-1 soon -according to "Defense News"- will be sold to a Middle Eastern country. The drone in question is the Orion-E produced by the Russian company Kronshtadt Group, capable to fly for about 24 hours at a maximum altitude of 8000 meters for 250 kilometers; designed to be used for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance tasks (ISR) but for which a combat version with a maximum load of 200 kilograms between missiles and bombs is also foreseen.
Probably the Middle Eastern country that will buy it will be one between Syria and Egypt, but Russian exports to the area are growing with many other states -like the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and Iraq- that look to Moscow to diversify military imports.
However, Russia is still lagging behind in the construction and development of short-medium range UAVs compared to the United States, Israel and China, which has sold many low-cost drones both Isr and attack, in the Middle East.
