USA: from March 2020 in production the new nuclear bomb for airplanes
Certifications for the F-35 will also begin
After the tests carried out in June to verify the capabilities of the latest update of the B61-12 gravity nuclear bomb, the "new" weapon will be mass produced starting in March 2020 in order to extend the life of the program, even through a direct update on the obsolete parts of the previous versions used by most of the NATO countries (including Italy). The certification of use will remain valid for B-52 and B-2 bombers, for all US combat aircraft (F-15, F-16, F/A-18) and Tornado, while F- 35 should be allowed to use the B61-12 in the next decade allowing, especially to European states, to be able to use if US nuclear bombs were needed. Unlike the Eurofighter Typhoon talk that you have never started certification procedures and that it should be fully updated to carry the bomb; a complicated and very expensive procedure that could only be followed if Germany were to decide to replace the Tornado with a new version of the European fighter.
