Planes and carriers. SIA-ANZ announce alliance renewal
For another five years, until March 2024
Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Air New Zealand (ANZ) welcomed the decision of the New Zealand Transport Ministry to extend the authorization of the joint-venture between the two carriers. The renewal of the approval by New Zealand is the last step of a path that has allowed the extension of the alliance for another five years until March 2024. Starting from the launch of the alliance in January 2015, the two airlines have increased the frequency of flights between Singapore and New Zealand, offering more passengers and more travel options. In addition, a new Singapore-Wellington link was launched via Australia in 2016, along with the increase in high-season services for Christchurch. The alliance has increased the availability of seats between Singapore and New Zealand by over 25%. The companies will introduce a third daily flight between Singapore and Auckland on October 28, 2018, increasing the capacity of 40% on the route, with more than 165,000 additional seats per year. The alliance will also make connection times shorter and will improve connections to European destinations, India and Southeast Asia through the Singapore hub. During the high season months, both airlines will operate a total of 35 round-trip flights a week between Singapore and New Zealand, including services to Wellington and Christchurch.
