Alitalia (2): Lufthansa gets out of a minority stake

CEO Spohr explains that he will not be a co-investor with the Italian government

The declarations by the CEO of Lufthansa Carsten Spohr could be a "cold shower" for the Italian government and for Ferrovie dello Stato. In fact, from the top of the carrier came affirmations that go against the expectations of having the German Group as a partner of Alitalia, because Spohr assured  that "we will not be co-investors with the Italian government of an airline undergoing restructuring". A position that reflects Lufthansa's willingness to participate in the shareholding of Alitalia only if this is in the hands of private individuals and if there is first a reduction in the costs of the carrier, which loses about 2 million euros a day. It remains to be seen whether they are words of circumstance or whether after long negotiations that could be launched early could the German company buy minority shares, although it seems increasingly a hypothesis far from being possible.
