Austria: 300 million for new helicopters
3 Black Hawk and a new training aircraft
The Austrian Government would have decided to allocate 300 million euros to be able to purchase an undefined number of helicopters for the armed forces, especially to be able to order three Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk so as to get 12 of these aircraft. Moreover, the government led by Sebastian Kurz would have the intention to expand the fleet of smaller helicopters for training and Search and Rescue (SaR) operations in case of natural disasters, also because the main task of the Austrian armed forces is precisely that of assist the civilian population in these situations.
The idea of the government would be to buy in addition to the Black Hawk one between the Bell 429, the Leonardo AW-109 and the Airbus H-145M, so you can also start a fleet renewal mainly composed of helicopters Aérospatiale SA-319 Alouette III (end of the 60s) and Bell OH-58 Kiowa (from the 70s). Moreover -according to Austrian press- the will is to purchase these aircraft from other countries, so as to save costs.
