Heathrow Airport: closure of the airspace for a drone

New failure of security measures taken

Despite the precautions taken to defend the airspace of UK airports from new invasion by drones, yesterday the London-Heathrow airport -the principal in Europe- was closed for almost an hour because of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle spotted in the adjacent skies. 60 minutes of total suspension of operations that forced air traffic control to divert some incoming connections and to block all departing aircraft, thus causing a great deal of inconvenience for passengers, also because there were delays throughout the yesterday evening.

The police and the port authorities have opened an investigation to verify that there was indeed a drone in flight and, if so, that was the operator, but above all for what reason the new anti-UAV measures did not work despite the investment and statements made by the Ministry of Transport.
