Fincantieri-Stx. Fraccaro: "We will not sell off our industrial assets"
This was said by the Minister for Relations with Parliament in the question time
The Minister for Relations with Parliament Riccardo Fraccaro made it clear, yesterday during the time question in the Chamber of Deputies, that the slowing down of the acquisition of Stx by Fincantieri "is not in line with the objectives and the orientation of the Government that has the will to revive the national industry, after the production assets of € 170 billion have been abandoned". An operation that was managed during the previous legislature by Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni who signed the agreement with French President Emmanuel Macron in 2017, giving way to the purchase of 50% of the capital of the Saint-Nazaire shipyards by of the main Italian shipbuilding company, to which France would have lent the 1% necessary to give it the majority. The change of Government and the crisis in Italian-French relations has led the antitrust of Paris - and Berlin - has called for an intervention by the European Commission because it could have harmed the competition. The request was accepted and the operation blocked pending all the documents.
But Fraccaro assured that "there will be no acts of looting against our big companies, because despite the fact that the times could slip, we have the commitment to defend and safeguard the economy and industries of our country". An allusive criticism of the previous governments that have long been accused by the Movimento 5 Stelle and the Lega of having "sell-off" important parts of the Italian economy.
