Sikorsky-Boeing: ground tests for the SB>1 Defiant helicopter
The first flight scheduled for 2019 -VIDEO
The US companies Boeing and Sikorsky (part of Lockheed Martin) published a video of the first ground tests on the SB>1 Defiant helicopter on their "Twitter" pages. The counter-rotating double-rotor coaxial aircraft produced jointly by the two companies is one of the two competing to replace the fleet of multi-role helicopters in use by the US Army, which will start to be replaced starting from 2030. Unlike the Bell convertiplan V-280 Valor SB> 1 Defiant has accused some delays, so much so that the first flight was postponed on several occasions during 2018 until it was announced that it will be in 2019, in order to allow the resolution of some problems that emerged during the tests in the factories. The ground test shows that progress has been made and that, soon, it will be possible to see it take off, in an attempt to shorten the distance with the V-280 Valor that has already made some flights since the end of 2017 and it is in an advanced phase of experimentation.
