Lufthansa: in 2018 500 million euros for compensation
Too much request has caused delays and cancellations
During a press conference about Platts oil products held in the last week end in Antwerpen, Belgium, Lufthansa's head of fuel purchases Thorsten Lange explained that problems caused by the increased demand for connections and the lack of airplanes to cover every route in addition to the strikes, the German company has had to compensate passengers who are victims of delays or cancellations with a value of around 500 million euros. A very high cost for one of the most economically prosperous groups in the world, but that saw this precise item of expenditure almost double compared to the 350 million euro declared in 2017 for compensation. Moreover, among the problems accused by Lufthansa that caused some delays or cancellations there was the difficulty in integrating the 77 planes purchased by the failed Air Berlin in the fleet of the subsidiary Eurowings. In the same press conference it was also announced that a plan to improve the operational stability and quality of all Lufthansa Group airlines, including Swiss and Austrian Airlines, will soon be presented.
