Russia and China together to build a new heavy transport helicopter?
Indiscretions come from a Rostec executive
Russia and China in the "Aero India 2019" (February 20-24) probably will sign a contract to open an industrial partnership leading to the development of a new generation heavy transport helicopter in the coming years. This was explained by the director for international cooperation and regional policy of the Russian State-owned company Rostec Viktor Kladov on the sidelines of the inauguration of the event in Bangalore. The Sino-Russian idea would be to develop, to produce and to sell jointly an aircraft smaller than the Russian Mil Mi-26 but with a greater power than the US Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion, a helicopter therefore that could be comparable to what is the Boeing CH-47 Chinook. This is what Russia has been aiming for a long time, since heavy transport aircraft currently in use in the armed forces are dated and poorly preformed compared to Western ones; a problem similar to that of China, which is trying to reduce the gaps in the equipment and armaments accumulated over the years with the United States.
