Delta considers the investment in Alitalia to be excessive
Will Lufthansa return in the race?
Speaking in New York Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian underlined -as reported by the US press- that "no decision was made on Alitalia". The problem is related to the fact that "the value of the investment is very large and we do not take it into consideration", Bastian explained, not closing however to a "support to keep Alitalia in the SkyTeam transatlantic alliance". These statements seem to be due to the concerns that emerged from many to the extent of the possible investment.
This is a substantial step backwards by Delta regarding its possible participation in the shareholding of the new Alitalia to guide Ferrovie dello Stato. One could now reopen the road to a return to Lufthansa race. In this case it would remain to solve the problem of the presence of Alitalia in SkyTeam because, to exit and enter the Star Alliance (where Lufthansa is), it would take about 200 million euros.
