Aircraft and carriers. Qatar Airways will be released by oneworld?

The decision will be made in the next few months

Qatar Airways in the coming months could decide to leave the alliance between oneworld carriers, and to confirm it was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Akbar al-Baker who said that both options are being examined by the Board of Directors. According to al-Baker the problem is that Qatar Airways would be treated unfairly by oneworld members and would have been cornered by the influence of American Airlines CEO Doug Parker who would have "bullied" the same executives of the Doha company in the last meeting in London. Behind a possible exit by Qatar Airways from oneworld, however, there would be political problems that stem from the fact that the US airlines have asked Congress to intervene to limit the operational capabilities of the carrier funded directly from Doha and that uses Air Italy to get around the agreement between the two countries on air transport.

The problems are not just with the United States, because even with Australia Qatar Airways has many disagreements, increased after Qantas (which is part of oneworld) has vetoed a possible increase in routes to and from Doha. A decision that has sharpened the contrast between al-Baker and the managing directors of all the airlines in the international alliance, from where soon -almost certainly- Qatar Airways will come out, risking to "isolate itself" on the international scene.
