Japan: an F-35A aircraft disappeared from the radar
It happens during an exercise. Research in progress
A Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter aircraft of Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) disappeared this afternoon in the Pacific Ocean, about 160 kilometers east of the city of Misawa in the north of the country. The Coast Guard, the Navy (Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force) and the JASDF have sent ships and some UH-60J Black Hawk helicopters on the area to try to identify the wreck and to verify if the pilot has succeeded in ejecting; the operations are still in progress. It was reported by "NHK", where it was explained that the F-35A disappeared from the radar and one of the four fifth-generation aircraft that took off from the Misawa air base for a training mission at 7:00 pm local time.
As a precaution, the Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya has decided to ground all the 12 F-35A left over in the JASDF fleet, at least until it is clear what happened today.
