Airplane and transport. SAS: 315 flights cancelled due to strike
Protest of the pilots that could continue also Saturday and Sunday
The carrier SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) between yesterday and today cancelled 315 flight connections due to the pilots' strike, which are demanding an increase in pay and better working conditions. An action that is causing many hardships to the tens of thousands of people who were supposed to fly with SAS, who were stuck in the airports of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The request of the unions is to open a new negotiating table with the leadership and with their respective governments, especially after the last meeting brought no results since the proposed agreement that guaranteed more precise planning was rejected.
The risk is that even at the week-end a similar situation will arise because abstention from work could be prolonged, risking to affect about 170,000 passengers who have already purchased a ticket. Today the unions and the carrier's management will try to find an agreement to stop the strikes and to give way to a negotiation of a new employment contract for the pilots.
