Walter Cho appointed as Chairman of SkyTeam Alliance board
And elected to IATA BoG
Walter Cho, Chairman and CEO of Korean Air, has been confirmed as SkyTeam Alliance Board Chairman. The appointment was endorsed at a meeting of the SkyTeam Alliance Board at COEX Convention Center in Samseong-dong, Seoul. SkyTeam holds its Alliance Board meeting, which is composed of the CEOs of the 19 member airlines, to oversee SkyTeam’s global strategy.In the changing face of the global aviation industry, the need for proactive actions through strong leadership has grown stronger than ever. Against this backdrop, Walter Cho has been elected as Chairman, ahead of the 20th anniversary of SkyTeam's foundation in 2020. As a founding member, Korean Air has been instrumental in shaping SkyTeam over the last 20 years. Walter Cho, will now play an active role, alongside the other members, as SkyTeam grows from an established network to a digitally connected, customer-focused alliance.
He was elected as a member of the Board of Governors (BoG) at the IATA (International Air Transport Association) Annual General Meeting (AGM), on June 2 in Seoul. The IATA BoG is comprised of Director General and 31 members elected among the CEOs of global airlines based on expertise and experience. The Board is IATA’s highest policy review and decision-making body, which sets the direction for IATA’s activities, oversees the performance of affiliate bodies, while reviewing and approving the appointment of its Director General, annual budget, membership qualifications, and so on. The late Chairman Yang Ho Cho served as a BoG member for eight consecutive years from 1996. As a new member of the IATA BoG, Chairman Walter Cho will effectively convey his global experience to this important industry.
