KLM: first European sustainable aviation fuel production plant
The opening is scheduled for 2022
Klm Royal Dutch Airlines has committed itself for a period of 10 years in the development and purchase of 75,000 tons of sustainable fuel per year. KLM is among the first carriers in the world to invest in sustainable fuel on a large scale. SkyNrg, active in the global market for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), will develop the first European plant dedicated to the production of Saf in Delfzijl in the Netherlands.
The construction of this plant, which is scheduled to open in 2022, is a concrete step towards achieving the sustainability objectives of the Dutch airline, contributing to the realization of the large "Smart and Sustainable" business plan.
Starting in 2022, the plant will annually produce 100,000 tons of Saf and 15,000 tons of bioLpg as a by-product. This means a CO2 reduction of 270,000 tons per year for the aviation sector. This is an important step for the industry to meet the need to reduce carbon emissions, on the one hand, and the growing demand for sustainable aviation fuel, on the other.
