In a conference with the national press Ilya Tarasenko, CEO of the Russian manufacturer Mikoyan-Gurevich (MiG) informed that the Vozdušno-kosmičeskie sily (Vks, the Aerospace Units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation born in 2015 from the merger of the air force with the Russian aerospace defense forces, respectively VVS and Vko), received the first two MiG-35 fighter planes under the terms of an agreement signed with the Ministry of Defense, which provides for the delivery of a further four units by the end of 2019.
"In the last three years we have significantly speeded up the MiG-35 program. In a very short time we started the production of this airplane and performed the tests; in 2 and a half years we have moved from initial development work to the contract with the Ministry of Defense", said the CEO. Agreement signed at the Armija Forum in 2018, when the Russian department committed itself to an order of six such fighters by 2023 in the two "S" and "UB" single-seat and two-seater versions, for combat and training, respectively.
The MiG-35 (last variant in production of the MiG-29M/M2 and its K/KUB navalized version) is a 4++ generation fighter designed for aerial supremacy, capable of attacking land and surface targets from the outside of the enemy's air defense zone.
