Beijing-Daxing: the largest airport in the world completed
After checks and inspections, the inauguration will take place in September - VIDEO
More or less on schedule, the work started in 2014 of the new Beijing-Daxing airport, the city's second international one, located on the border between Beijing and Langfang, the largest in the world with a single terminal (which contends the primacy with the new Istanbul airport) of gigantic size: 1.03 million sm and the capacity to serve 200 million people from 28 cities in and around Beijing, Tianjin and the northern Hebei province. The airport will be able to manage up to 620,000 flights and 300 landings/take-offs per hour when, once the technical checks and runway tests have been completed, it will open its doors with the official inauguration on September 30.
"It is the largest integrated transport hub ever", project leader Bai Henghong said it. "The terminal was built with a steel structure without welding. It is the first project in the world with a two-bridge structure for departures and arrivals". More than 11 billion euros were spent on its construction and 40,000 workers were employed. This important international hub in northern China has 4 runways that will become 7 in the future; the construction of another terminal to the south of the current one is also planned in order to serve a total of 880,000 flights and host 100 million passengers every year.
