The Japanese diplomat died at the age of 73

Yukiya Amano, head of IAEA, International Atomic Energy Agency, died today, on July 22nd at 73 years old: this morning, the organization put its flag at half-mast as a sign of mourning. Last week, Amano had told the media that he wanted to resign. The diplomat had also served in the United Nations (UN) and since 1972 he had held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and he had specialized in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The IAEA Secretariat has published "the last reflection" of the Japanese diplomat: "During the past decade, the Agency has achieved concrete results thanks to the support of the Member States and the dedication of the Agency. I am very proud of our results reached and grateful to the Member States and the staff".
