A "Near Earth Asteroid" will come closer today
Nasa: space rock nearer than the Moon, larger than the Statue of Liberty - VIDEO
According to NASA, "2019 OD" is a taller asteroid of the Statue of Liberty, with a diameter between 52 and 120 meters, which will speed at 70,000 km/h and it will arrive on the afternoon of July 24th at 3:30pm Italian time. it's travelling at a distance of about 353.050 km from the Earth.
The "Near Earth object" was first identified in April by the Catalina Astronomers Sky Survey in Arizona. Then, the scientists of the jet propulsion laboratory by NASA based in California have been catalogued it on the list of asteroids that are likely to impact the Earth in the next 100 years. The late collision with a meteor occurred in 2013 in Russia at the city of Chelyabinsk: the impact of Kef-2013 caused an explosive energy of around 500 kilotons and more than 1200 people asked for medical assistance. Most of them had been hit by shards of glass from the windows that exploded from the shock wave.
Qing-Zhu Yin, a professor at the University of California emphasized the importance of asteroid monitoring at the time: "If humanity does not want to end up like dinosaurs it is necessary to study these events, and the Chelyabinsk occurrence may represent a point reference for future studies".
