USA missiles (2): China and Russia accuse the United States
According to Beijing and Moscow the Americans would like to reopen the arms race
After the missile test carried out by the US on August 18 (see AVIONEWS) a few days after the US exit from the nuclear Treaty (see AVIONEWS), condemnation arrives from China and Russia: according to the two powers the Americans would have reopen the arms race.
Sergei Ryabkov, Russian deputy foreign minister, told the "Tass" agency: "The United States evidently chose to raise military tension, but we do not give in to provocations: as President Vladimir Putin said yesterday, we renew the our commitment to a unilateral moratorium on the deployment of terrestrial medium-range missile systems until the United States uses such systems somewhere in the world".
Geng Shuang, a spokeswoman for Chinese diplomacy, added: "The launch proves that the real goal of the US was to be able to develop missiles and fight for unilateral military superiority without limits".
