New protests at Hong Kong airport
Business Office: "Almost Terrorist Acts"
Protests are continuing in China (see AVIONEWS) and new demonstrations are scheduled for Hong Kong airport on August 23rd. While the Chinese Hong Kong Business Office condemned the demonstrations as "almost terrorist acts", the High Court extended an order that limits the demonstrations to the airport and the local authority sent a statement urging young people to "love Hong Kong" and invited them to oppose the acts that cause the blocking of the air station.
Activists presented five requests to the government: withdraw the extradition bill, launch an investigation into how to suppress police demonstrations, stop describing protests as "violent riots", renounce charges against arrested people and resume the political reforms.
The institutions threaten an armed intervention if a truce is not reached in the short term. The city is undergoing its first recession for the last ten years.
