Aircraft at ground. More than 100 flights cancelled in Puerto Rico

The "Dorian" hurricane is now heading towards Florida

The "Dorian" hurricane, passing through Puerto Rico where more than 100 flights have been cancelled (and aircraft grounded), arriving or departing, is heading today, August 29, to Florida. The alert remains, however, and the press office of the island's security department said that the winds of the tropical storm, which can exceed the speed of 140 km for hour, could still fall in the area.

"Dorian" hit the US Virgin Islands tonight as a category 1 hurricane (but could also reach category 3) now threatening the British Virgin Islands.

US President Donald Trump said in a tweet: "We are closely monitoring the tropical storm 'Dorian'".

The preventive measures, are adopted after the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) declared "considerable danger" because, in 2017, at  the Caribbean territory  the violent hurricane "Maria" had caused the death of several thousand people and left many displaced people at the mercy of the elements' fury.

Also Florida governor Ron De Santis announced a state of emergency in view of the arrival of the cyclone, expected for the week-end.
