Iran: ultimatum to the "European Powers"

Granted another two months, then nuclear deal violation

Today, on September 4, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani gave an ultimatum to the European powers: only another two months of extension will be granted to September 6 to save the Iran Nuclear Deal and warned that Tehran is preparing for "put into practice" the violation of the global joint action plan stipulated in Vienna.

According to the Pact, Iran has agreed to eliminate almost all of its medium and low enrichment uranium reserves and to reduce its gas centrifuges by two-thirds for thirteen years. For the next fifteen Tehran has agreed to enrich uranium only to 3.67% and not to build any new heavy water reactor during the same period. To monitor and verify compliance with the treaty, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has regular access to all Iranian nuclear facilities.

The peremptory demand for the Rouhani came at a time when Iranian officials have given mixed signals in response to a rescue French proposal that offered Iran about $ 15 bn in credit facilities provided that Tehran return to respect conditions (see AVIONEWS).
