Alitalia: still asked for an extension to present the binding offer

The new date is October 31st

Italian Railroads of the State (called Ferrovie dello Stato - FS) would have asked a shifted date to present the binding offer for the purchase of the airline Alitalia: the deadline was scheduled for September 15th, then a possible procrastination was hypothesized to September 30th, which in any case would have already caused serious difficulties the carrier (see AVIONEWS). Currently there are no official communications, but at the moment there is still no agreement with Delta about some key points that would allow the marriage with FS and MEF (italian Ministry of Economy and Finance).

The new Government will decide and the new Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Paola De Micheli had declared that Ferrovie dello Stato, now with an important role in the carrier rescue consortium should not lose the objective to give a safe and high level service.

This would be the sixth extension, as well as an extension of another six months of a redundancy fund for thousand employees. Alitalia is continuing to fly thanks to the bridge loan of EUR 900 million of public money granted by the Gentiloni Government.

The meeting between the airline and the unions is expected tomorrow on September 12.
