Spain: Catalan separatists condemned

Violent protests, access roads to the Madrid airport blocked -VIDEO

The Spanish Supreme Court yesterday condemned the separatist leaders of Catalonia with sentences of between 9 and 13 years in prison. Blocked rail and metropolitan access routes to Barcelona-El Prat Airport by demonstrators who protested angrily on the streets. More than 67 canceled flights and thousands of protesters at the airport. The police charged the activists with batons.

The sentence comes exactly two years after the illegal referendum day and the declaration of independence approved by the parliament of Barcelona where the police tried to prevent the voters from going to the polls.

The Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court has accused the separatists of attacking the Constitution: thirteen years in prison for the former president of "Generalitat" Carles Puigdemont (now repaired in Belgium and against whom an international arrest warrant was sent). Thirteen years also for the vice-president Oriol Junqueras, two years locked up in the prison of Lledonerse and head of the "Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya" movement. Twelve years for ex-councilors Jordi Turull, Raül Romeva and Dolors Bassa, 11 and a half for ex-President of the Parliament, Carme Forcadell, 10 and a half years for Josep Rull and Joaquim Forn and 9 years Jordi Sànchez and Jordi Cuixart.
