Coronavirus: Italians stranded at an airport in Mauritius

Either they accept quarantine or they return to Italy. Government measures

While the coronavirus emergency continues to gallop, with the contagions that only 219 people have reached Italy and the situation alarms public opinion in Lombardy, Veneto and Piedmont, they have been blocked at Mauritius airport. 300 passengers on a flight from Italy: they were asked to accept a quarantine period or to immediately return to the country. The airport is located on the island off Madagascar, in the heart of the Indian Ocean. The African island Republic thus defends itself from any contagions arriving from Italy where a "curfew" has been imposed in Veneto and Lombardy and the epidemic has made the fifth victim: it is an elderly person over eighty years old from the Lombard municipality Caselle Lanne.

Extraordinary measures by the Italian Government for the two regions: closure of schools, universities, museums, cinemas, aggregation points, gyms, pubs and discos. The Mauritian authorities who blocked the Italians on board the Alitalia plane give us a photograph of the worldwide perception that currently exists towards the country, suggesting future problems also for commercial air links, and negative consequences from the point of view economic and financial.

Meanwhile, the Farnesina (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters) is following the event.
