The number of air passengers in China increased by 6.9% on an annual basis in 2019, up to 1.35 billions, according to data released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in recent days, and reported today by "China Daily ". But Chinese transport by airplane was the first to face the consequences of the new coronavirus epidemic. The domestic civil aviation sector lost approximately $ 3.52 billion in February due to Covid-19. The most penalized were the Chinese carriers, which suffered losses of around 21 billion CNY, according to the tabloid reports on CAAC sources.
In terms of passenger traffic, the sector managed 8.34 million connections, with a drastic drop of 84.5% on an annual basis. Between 2 and 8 March 40% of domestic flights operated. But in the last few days, with the easing of the grip of the epidemic, some signs of improvement are coming from the air transport industry.
