Madrid airport: 23,000 dead chicks discovered

These animals were in the cargo terminal

A very bad discovery: according to what has been reported in recent hours by the Spanish police, 23,000 dead chicks were found in one of the cargo terminals at "Adolfo Suárez" airport in Madrid-Barajas, a sad end for the animals that were abandoned by individuals not yet identified. Police explained that last week 26,000 chicks were found in the Iberian port, 6,000 of which unfortunately were lifeless. The reconstruction of the story is soon said: the birds had been placed in some cardboard boxes and death would have occurred after three days without water and food.

Some of them would have tried to survive by eating the already dead specimens, the classic survival instinct. Few survivors of recent days have been entrusted to organizations that deal with animal protection, meanwhile the investigations continue to ascertain the responsibilities of the incident. The chicks were sent by a specialized company which, however, did not want to take care of the animals in any way. The episode recalls what happened two years ago in Brussels, when 20 thousand specimens died following the postponement of the departure of a plane and the box with the birds left on the asphalt and in the sun for an entire weekend (read also the article published by AVIONEWS).
