Planes, easyJet and Lufthansa first landings in Berlin-Brandenburg
Official debut of airport will be on October 31st
Nine years of delay, but also an ever closer official inauguration: next October 31 there will be the opening of Berlin-Brandenburg "Willy Brandt" airport, whose story became nothing short of paradoxical (read also the article published by AVIONEWS). A little more than two weeks after the expected event, the first planes that will be able to land in the German airport are known, namely those of the low-cost carrier easyJet and that of the national airline Lufthansa. The choice was put in black and white in the last few hours, with the assurance that the first ever departure from Berlin-Brandenburg will take place on 1 November 2020, to be precise at 6:45 am and with destination London-Gatwick.
Three days later it will be the turn of the debut of the South runway, while easyJet's last flight from another Berlin airport, namely Tegel, is scheduled for the following 8 November (the flight will then land in Paris) . The aircraft of the airlines in question are expected on October 31 at 2 pm, when the first landing on these runways will sanction the official start that seemed almost blurred. There will be no pompous ceremony just because of the constant delays and the constant waste of money. Meanwhile, Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, general manager of Berlin-Brandenburg, was very clear, speaking of the new aid to be requested in the coming months and the insolvency avoided thanks to the shareholders who have buffered the income loss (see AVIONEWS).
