Assoutenti: "Air carriers have monetized covid fears"

Association survey on recent tariff policies

Assoutenti, association for the protection of consumers, information activities, social solidarity and protection of civil rights, consumer education, conducted a survey on the rates charged by the main air carriers. The study concerned both low-cost and "traditional" airlines, with a final discovery that does not bode well. In fact, the sector would have changed its fares taking advantage of the fears of passengers, therefore for Assoutenti it has made cash with the covid-19. The president of the association, Furio Truzzi, added other interesting details in this regard: "Comparing the ticket prices on the websites of the main carriers, it turns out that the prices are in line with those of previous years, but all services related to transport plane, from luggage to seat selection, have been paid for, applying fares that exceed more than double the cost of a single flight ". Also according to Truzzi, before the health emergency some low-cost airlines offered the choice of seats on the plane for a fee. This service has now become a common practice regardless of the type of carrier, specifically the seats closest to the aircraft exits are paid at a higher price "taking advantage of the fear of gatherings and the need for passengers to stay on board as short as possible ". The reconstruction of Assoutenti is as follows: the air carriers are in a very serious liquidity situation and to try to solve the problem they have monetized the covid, exploiting the new needs of passengers.
