Omicron variant (2): UK imposes new rules
Swabs on arrival, smart-working and certification to enter pub
With the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in recent days, the British government announced that all travellers to the UK will have to undergo a swab before leaving. This decision disapponted the managers of air carriers operating on the island. Despite this, infections are doubling every two or three days. That's why London imposed new restrictions, including working from home and requiring vaccine certification to enter indoor venues.
The new measures introduced by the government will take effect on Monday. The news is a sign of growing concern about the upward trend of the Omicron variant, which British authorities say could supplant the Delta variant in a matter of weeks, causing more than a million total cases by the end of December. So far, about 1,000 cases have been reported by the UK Health Safety Agency. Meanwhile, so far 36% of Britons have received their third dose.
