NATO chief runs for bank of Norway
Stoltenberg will not leave Atlantic Alliance leadership before October 2022
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that he submitted an application to be the next governor of the Central Bank of Norway recently. The former prime minister of the Scandinavian country said that if he gets the job, he would not start before the natural expiration of his term at the head of the Atlantic Alliance, which will take place on 2022 October 1st.
The current governor of Norges Bank, Oeystein Olsen, will leave the post at the beginning of 2022 after holding the position since 2011 for two terms. The Nato secretary general ends his service next year. If he were appointed to head the Norwegian bank, he would remain in office for six years. Stoltenberg was convinced by the Scandinavian country's Finance ministry, centrist Trygve Slagsvold Vedum, who in November asked him to consider a possible candidacy.
