Strike at Frankfurt airport: flights cancelled
Some ground operators ask for salary adjustments next year
The German United Services Trade Union (Verdi) called for a strike at Frankfurt airport today. The union protest against the working conditions of around 600 employees of the airport service company Wisag, for whom it is demanding a wage adjustment of around 11% from next year. Workers are crossing their arms from this morning at 4:30 am until 11:59 pm.
"Due to an announced strike at the service provider Wisag, there will be delays in operations throughout the day on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. Passengers travelling with Lufthansa are not directly affected by the agitation. Travellers are asked to inquire about the status of their flight on the airline's internet portals before beginning their journey, to use the online rebooking options if necessary or to contact their airline if they have any questions", the airport operator warns on social media and on its website.
The company Wisag is one of several service providers (about 15%) that handles both baggage handling and check-in at Frankfurt am Main Airport. For this reason, the protest should not cause too much inconvenience; however, some flights are cancelled.
