Airplane-helicopter. Bell-Boeing wins V-22 tiltrotors maintenance

A 1.6 billion dollars tender for hundreds of aircraft

The American manufacturers Bell and Boeing won in these days the tender of the US Department of Defense for maintenance, repair and support services for V-22 tiltrotor (aircraft-helicopter) in service with the Armed Forces of Washington. The 1.6 billion dollars contract covers the operation of 228 MV-22B and CMV-22 aircraft in Navy service, as well as the CV-22 Osprey version in service with the US Air Force. Maintenance work is expected to last through December 2026.

The V-22 Osprey is a medium aircraft jointly developed by US manufacturers Bell Helicopter Textron and Boeing Vertol for the US military. The vertical takeoff and landing tiltrotor is the result of the Joint Vertical-lift Experimental program initiated in 1981 by the US Department of Defense. It is a transport aircraft with specific characteristics required by the US Navy and the US Army, combining the flexibility of a helicopter with the long-range performance of a turboprop aircraft. The first flight occurred in 1989 and the aircraft entered service in 2007.
