Six military helicopters from the USA to Ukraine
Some aircraft from the former Afghan Air Force will arrive in the Spring
As announced in recent weeks, the US administration led by President Joe Biden is considering sending armaments and advisers to Ukraine. Washington's goal is to strengthen Kiev, giving it a leg up in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), at a time when Russia is multiplying soldiers and military assets along the border.
Ukraine is expected to receive several helicopters, including five Mi-17V5 aircraft and one Russian-made Mi-8MTV, which previously belonged to the Afghan Air Force. The US originally purchased them to give to the government in Kabul before it fell into Taliban hands. The first batch of rotary-wing units is expected to arrive in Kiev this Spring.
