American company bets on SAF from ethanol
Investors and institutions likes the idea and are betting tens of millions of dollars

The US company specialized in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), Lanzajet, has announced that by 2023 it plans to open the first plant in which it will produce tens of millions of liters of biodiesel and aircraft propellant from ethanol with low carbon dioxide content. The Chicago-based company aims to supply conventional aircraft that can cut harmful gas emissions in half thanks to SAF.
Investors like the idea: from big tech Microsoft, which has already received 50 million dollars, to oil company Shell. The US Department of Energy has also believed in the idea, giving financial support of 14 million Euros to build LanzaJet's first plant in Georgia. The need to decarbonize the air transport sector, in fact, is very much felt across the Atlantic: just think that in the star and stripes country aircraft cause 11% of the emissions of the entire transport sector.
