USA sells aircraft and radar to Egypt

This includes 12 C-130 Hercules aircraft. Protests from Democrats

The US State Department approved the sale of military assets to Egypt for a value of 2.5 billion dollars in recent hours. The order includes 12 Lockheed Martin Hercules C-130 tactical transport aircraft and a radar defense system worth over 350 million dollars. Protests within the ranks of the Democratic Party.

"The proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a major non-NATO ally country that continues to be an important strategic partner in the Middle East", the US department wrote in a note.

A choice, that of the transfer of weapons to Cairo, which was not without opposition from some members of the US Congress, due to the human rights situation in the North African country. The announcement, in fact, came a few hours after the request made by some members of the Democratic Party to reconsider the sale of military equipment to Egypt. The hope is to replicate what happened in September 2021, when a tranche of funding worth 130 million dollars was blocked.
