Russia-Belarus military axis in Syria

A soldier contingent from Minsk on mission to help population

According to a draft agreement between the governments of Russia and Belarus, Minsk is ready to deploy up to 200 soldiers in Syria to collaborate militarily with the Russian armed forces on the territory. The possible mission partnership in the Middle Eastern country reflects the close proximity between the two States. The alliance was also strengthened recently through joint military exercises and thanks to the green light given to the Kremlin for the transfer of Russian soldiers along the border with Ukraine.

The Russian minister said that the Belarusian soldiers would work under the leadership of the Soviet Army to provide assistance to the population. Russian Prime Minister Michail Vladimirovic Mishustin assured that the Minsk gunmen "will perform tasks exclusively outside the area of military operations", the details of which will be further defined in subsequent talks with the other side.
