China: tests start on the first cargo airport

Ezhou Huahu Airport will be the first of its kind in Asia, the fourth in the world

Tests on the first domestic airport in China designed exclusively for cargo handling are underway. A cargo plane successfully completed its flight test yesterday. This is the first test of its kind in the entire country, which took place at the air terminal located in the city of Ezhou, in central China's Hubei province.

Ezhou Huahu Airport is equipped with two runways and aircraft taxiing systems, as well as a cargo transfer center covering nearly 700,000 square meters. The airport will serve as a cargo handling hub airport and is the first of its kind in all of Asia and the fourth professional cargo airport worldwide.

Government agencies expect the volume of air cargo transported at the airport to reach 2.45 million tons in 2025. In addition, it will also be used as an auxiliary airport for passenger transport, for which traffic is estimated at about one million per year.
