Over 500 flight connections cancelled due to covid

The consequence of three days of infection among easyJet and BA staff

At least 45,000 passengers were left stranded after British airlines EasyJet and British Airways cancelled around 500 flights between Saturday 2 and Monday 4 April. The reason for this was the numerous covid-19 infections, which were mainly among flight attendants and pilots. These are mainly flights departing from and bound for the United Kingdom.

It is a drastic decision aimed at limiting the impact of contagions as much as possible. A choice made necessary by the fact that the rotation of crews or the inclusion of additional staff, as done by the company EasyJet, did not have the desired effects, so it was necessary to cancel some flights. Also because the two airlines, like many others in the world, in order not to go bankrupt during the pandemic, have laid off several employees between 2020 and 2021.

The wave of cancellations comes at a particular time. Recently, in fact, some British airlines have removed the requirement for travelers to wear masks on domestic flights and international flights to countries where it is not required to keep over the nose and mouth health protection devices.
